It’s day three of my four day, four park tour of Disney World. Today’s adventure begins at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It’s one of the smaller parks at Disney but that is actually a great thing. Each area is used appropriately and while it has less expansive scenery than Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom, due to its incredible attractions, you barely notice.
Hollywood studios has six main areas and the entrance, Hollywood Boulevard. As with all entry areas of each park, Hollywood Boulevard is mostly shops but also boasts a main stage where you can see Star Wars live shows and trivia! This is also where your favourite Star Wars heroes and villains start their march every hour through the park. It’s a pretty awesome sight! The next area is Sunset Boulevard, which is probably the busiest area of the park. It’s home to the park’s classic Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, which This Chick and This Guy bravely endured, and the Rock‘n’Roller-Coaster, starring Aerosmith. Next is Animation Courtyard, which is a very pretty area where you can meet Star Wars characters at the Launch Bay, or see your favourite Little Mermaid in a live musical performance. Both are a must see.
Of course there’s Toy Story Land, where you truly feel like you’re back in Andy’s bedroom with Buzz and Woody’s world all around you. This part of the park is the best, and boasts the incredibly popular roller-coaster, Slinky Dog Dash. This Chick would have loved to do this one, but as already addressed in my previous articles, the line for very popular rides is usually over a 2 hour wait and sadly This Chick just didn’t have the time to do it all.
Next on our adventure was Echo Lake, where we saw the amazing live Indiana Jones Stunt show, a must see when visiting this park. For younger travellers, there’s also a fun Frozen Sing Along Celebration, and a live stage where you can see little kids learn to channel their Jedi skills. This area also has some beautiful scenery and decorations of our favourite Hollywood characters, including The Good Dinosaur.
Lastly we have two areas that kind of blend together, Commissary Lane and Grand Avenue, which consist mostly of restaurants, and one 3D show with The Muppets. This is also where you can meet Mickey (in his Sorceror getup). These two areas don’t have many attractions but are filled with some pretty great Hollywood classics, including Kermit the frog, a realistic movie set alley, and This Chicks favourite, a Star Wars Speeder Bike and AT-AT.
So let’s talk details. Hollywood Studios is the second smallest park, second to Magic Kingdom, but uses it space very wisely. The entire park is laid out in a circular design and has attractions throughout. As this is a smaller park, it also seemed to be a lot quieter than Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom, which made the lines shorter so we were able to do most of what we wanted in the six hours we had.
Hollywood also has TONS of characters all around waiting for you to take their pictures. And as already stated, has the Imperial March every hour on the hour. The food is pretty much the same as all the other parks, but an extra perk is the food is mostly located on Commissary Lane and Grand Avenue, so most of the food crowd is out of the way of the scenery and amusements.
My vote? Hollywood Studios is so far my second favourite park (after Animal Kingdom), and definitely a must visit on your Disney adventure.
Tomorrow, we wrap up our adventure with Disney’s EPCOT.
