Well, This Guy knew this day would come eventually. But it’s been reported now that Andrew Lincoln, known for playing Rick Grimes on AMC’s The Walking Dead, will be leaving the series following its upcoming 9th season.
Andrew Lincoln is one of the few remaining series originals, having been on the show since it premiered on Halloween in 2010. Since then, Rick has remained the show’s main character, leading our ever-changing group of survivors through the blood-soaked world they find themselves in.
Reasons for Lincoln’s departure aren’t clear at this time, but it can be assumed he plans to go back to the UK and spend more time with his family. Of course he’ll likely pursue other opportunities, possibly on the big screen. He has remained hugely popular over the course of the series, and has been highly praised for his performance throughout. it’s safe to say he’ll have no trouble finding fame and fortune elsewhere.
It is unknown how Lincoln will exit The Walking Dead, but it has been reported he is only expected to appear in a handful of episodes in season 9 (likely 6 episodes). This is also said to be true about Lauren Cohan’s Maggie, who also almost left the show this previous season.
“We can’t go back. . . this is the way things are now.”
While we may be saddened by Andrew Lincoln’s departure, there is a silver lining to go along with it. Norman Reedus, and his redneck archer Daryl Dixon has apparently been offered a promotion to take over as the series’ lead. Which could actually be a real perk here, as Daryl’s character has been a treading water for some time now.
Well, so long, Rick. We’ll miss you.
So, what do we think Walking Dead fans? Is it time for Rick to go? Is Daryl ready to take over as the leader of Alexandria? let us know here, or on twitter @This_Guy_Writes!
