Well, this is a reunion This Guy’s been waiting for for 31 years. When Predator came out in 1987, it was like lightning in a bottle The biggest, baddest action star on the planet, pitted against the newest, coolest alien on screen since. . . well, Alien. It was an action flick filled to the brim with testosterone. Men being men, wielding helicopter guns with their bare hands, and spouting off one-liners that made up roughly 70% of the film’s dialogue. It’s glorious.

One of the unsung heroes of that film is Shane Black. You might remember him as Hawkins in the movie, the guy with the glasses and the pussy jokes. Shane Black is actually a screenwriter, and one of the main reasons he was given a role in the film, was so Producer Joel Silver could have him close by to review the script’s dialogue. That snappy Shane Black flair is evident throughout, and has become a trademark in his films since.

Now, three decades later, Shane Black is back writing and directing the latest film in the franchise, The Predator. This latest hunt looks to take place at least partly in suburbia, and will pit human soldiers against a new breed of Predators that have enhanced themselves with genetic augmentation. How the deadliest hunters in the universe could get any more deadly, I don’t know. But apparently they did! The film boasts a cool cast including Boyd Holbrook, Tom Jane, and Keegan-Michael Key. And promises to show us a side of the Predators we haven’t seen before. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing, we’ll have to wait and see. Until then, slather yourself in mud just in case.
