Black Friday buys

Black Friday Buys – Growing the Collection + GIVEAWAY

Black Friday has come and gone, and if you’re an ordinary, non-insane consumer, you probably didn’t really notice. For the rest of us, we spent our days elbowing and suplexing our way through electronics, department stores, and Amazon.com. This Guy likes to take advantage of the annual bloodbath to grow the blu-ray collection with a few of the newest instant classics. Four movies made the cut this year, and they’re all worth checking out.

Now, as a special treat for you guys, This Guy is giving away 4 FREE digital download codes for HD copies of these movies. Simply find an article on the site you enjoyed (or not!), and Tweet out a link and tell him what you thought of the article. You’ll automatically be put in a draw for a free download code for one of the movies below! Make sure to include his twitter handle @This_Guy_Writes so he can find your entry. Winners will be chosen Friday, December 1st.

1. Split

Split was another Black Friday buy for This Guy

Probably This Guy’s most pleasant surprise of 2017. Split was a true return to form from M Night Shyamalan, and one long overdue. With a wonderful cast of young actresses, working opposite a powerhouse performance from James McAvoy, Split delves into the broken mind of a man with 23 distinct personalities living in his body. When 2 of those personas kidnap 3 friends and keep them prisoner, we learn they are awaiting the arrival of a new, 24th personality, ‘The Beast.’ The movie is tense, terrifying, has a great cast (McAvoy is incredible), and is the first Shyamalan film in over a decade worth paying for. But if you can get it cheap on Black Friday, bonus.

2. T2: Trainspotting

This Guy picked up Trainspotting 2 on Black Friday

Now with super low Black Friday prices, sometimes impulse takes over and you end up with blind buys like this one. This Guy hasn’t actually seen T2 yet, but he’s a lifelong Danny Boyle fan who loved the first Trainspotting (as well as the original novel). So he can’t really go wrong. 20 years after the events of the first film, reformed heroin addict Mark Renton returns home to Edinburgh, and immediately falls back in with his old friends. After a quick rewatch of Boyle’s original adaptation, this one is first on the agenda this weekend.

3. Justice League Dark

This Guy has very conflicted feelings about DC. On the one hand, in terms of the comics and characters, they tend to blow marvel out of the water. On the other hand, their movies tend to be hot garbage. Luckily this trend doesn’t extend to their animated films. Their comic adaptations have a terrific track record, and Justice league Dark provides a great opportunity for some of the lesser known heroes to shine. Guys like Constantine, Swamp Thing, Etrigan the Demon, and Batman (because why not?) round out an awesome cast in this dark magic adventure.

4. Get Out

Get Out is one of the best movies of the year, and an absolute steal on Black Friday

Get Out is probably This Guy’s favourite movie 2017 (a close race with Wind River). The feature debut for director Jordan peele (of Key & Peele fame) took audiences and critics by storm, breaking box office records and topping ‘best of’ lists the world over. This twisted story finds a young black man meeting his white girlfriend’s wealthy family for the first time. What starts as an awkward visit with some sprinkles of casual racism, soon devolves into an insanely tense game of cat & mouse as the family’s dark secrets start to surface.

This Guy

Who likes movies? This Guy! Who has way too much to say, and lacks the mental focus, or appropriate filters necessary to express himself in an acceptable fashion? This guy! Oh, and something about two thumbs.
