This Chick loves movies, she can’t remember a time where she didn’t look to the screen in awe and desire for that next grand adventure. So, surprise surprise, This Chick is pretty frickin’ pumped about the rise of the Marvel Universe to the big screen. Of course there’s nothing wrong with reading the comics and watching the kids TV shows, but there is something pretty amazing about seeing our heroes come to life on a 20 foot screen or at home on Netflix in glorious 4k. Seems fitting to start off This Chick’s career with This Guy Writes with a top five of her favourite Marvel characters.
5. Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch)
Doctor Strange has a special place in This Chick’s heart. He’s a super smart guy who, after a car accident resulting from texting and driving in the rain, on a windy road, on a cliff. . . moving on; ends up learning sorcery to regain his surgical skills. He’s not a warrior, an alien from another planet, or the result of a scientific experiment. He’s just a guy who refuses to give up, and that makes him a pretty big badass, even if he still manages to look ever so dainty in every shot. The Chick is pretty pumped to see him in finally team with the Avengers in the coming Infinity War.
4. Groot (Vin Diesel)
This Chick does have a soft side, and while all her Marvel favourites are typically prone to incredible violence, Groot is both vicious AND adorable; of course he’s on the list! He’s a alien from another world, who happens to be a living tree, who can only say his name and has an equally adorable ass-kicking sidekick! Now, before you think this is completely out of the norm, let us remind you Groot kicks ass whenever Rocket or his friends are in danger. When the shit hits the fan, This Chick wants this tall brute on her side.
3. The Punisher (Jon Bernthal)
Who doesn’t love Frank Castle? This Chick remembers watching the Punisher movie back on VHS. Yes folks, VHS. Don’t worry Frank pulls it off in any resolution. He’s the manifestation of vengeance. An ex-marine, and unknowing hitman, whose family was killed for it. But now he’s got a touch of PTSD and a list of names. The end result? Run if you see The Punisher. Lucky for this fangirl Marvel’s The Punisher is back with his own Netflix series.
2. Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter)
I don’t feel I need to really go into great detail here. Anyone who has seen Jessica Jones on Netflix knows she’s a bad ass who doesn’t need help from anyone. She’s strong, tough and angry, what else could you want in a physically enhanced New Yorker? Not to get too deep here, but Jessica Jones is something of an icon for female Marvel fans, as one of the few leading ladies that manages to carry her own series and shines in Marvel’s The Defenders, overcoming the gender issues that plague many of today’s action heroines.
1. Thor Odinson (Chris Hemsworth)
This Chick has always been a huge Thor fan, but after the first (couple) Thor movies she fell out of love with the big blond lug. But after Thor: Ragnarok, the Asgardian heartthrob is back and better than ever! He’s a inter-dimensional God with a magical hammer who also happens to control thunder! Thor’s a tall, tough, terrifying storm bringer who kicks ass with a smile and a wink. This Chick’s hyped to see him call down the thunder in Marvel’s Infinity War.
